How does your donation help?

BVFA Emergency Fund

This fund supports emergency response in times of community need when food access is compromised.

For example, in the past, we have been able to support the Lake Louise community during the staff accommodation fires in 2023.

Donations made to the Bow Valley Food Alliance will continue to support our team to be able to jump in during times of need to ensure those in our own and neighbouring communities have access to food during difficult times.

Indigenous Food Fund

In 2023, through existing relationships with the Whyte Museum and Mini Thni community, the BVFA has identified a food need for a grieving community. This community gathers continuously for wakes and funerals of loved ones. The families and friends are feeding 150-300 mouths at these gatherings. We identified the need for a minimum of $200-500 a month for food and $75-100 for gas.

While this initiative was originally supported through a Town of Canmore Community Grant, this funding has now ended but the need from the community has not.

The BVFA is dedicated to meet this emergency need in a sustainable and resilient way. The BVFA is responding to this need through purchasing, producing and dropping off groceries as well as providing emotional support.
