Bow Valley Good Food Box
Dec 28, 2020
As part of our efforts to make the best use of our resources, the BVFA has been continuing to organize meetings across the valley, communicating with municipal representatives and working together to tackle shared issues and supporting one another whenever possible. Through these meetings we have been able to identify a variety of needs and gaps across the valley, including:
Greater support for grassroots organizations that are providing food in dignified ways
The need to remove stigma associated with accessing food supports
A greater need to engage around capacity building online
Ensuring vulnerable populations and those in isolation/impacted by COVID-19 are not left behind.
An example of how we have worked together to make food more accessible to the Bow Valley community has been by increasing our reach through the Good Food Box.
Working with The Organic Box, the fruit and vegetable supplier for the Good Food Box program, we were able to include a debit option as a form of payment. Many individuals/families do not have a credit card, making this program a bit more difficult to participate it in, as it required getting in touch with the Good Food Box to figure out a different method of payment that would work for both parties. Now, with the new addition of a debit option available for community members, the Good Food Box is more accessible to folks across the valley!
