Food Circle

Dec 28, 2020

Over the past few months, the BVFA has been connecting relevant groups/organizations who may be able to provide mutual support to one another. More recently, we were able to connect the Canmore Food Recovery Barn with a commercial kitchen in Canmore, allowing them to run a Food Circle program, a vision they had for their organization for some time know. This Food Circle program allowed community members to come together and learn ways to prepare and cook "ugly" fruits and vegetables into healthy meals to take home.

Unfortunately, due to the new COVID-19 restrictions mandated by the province in early December, this food program had to come to an end after only two sessions. However, we are confident that in the new year, the Canmore Food Recovery Barn will be able to continue to offer this unique opportunity to the Bow Valley community, reducing the amount of food waste going into the compost bins while also increasing knowledge around preparing and cooking with food items that are typically seen as waste.

Just wanted to thank you for organizing us the good food box we picked up yesterday. It is a tremendous help to our family, and my 6 months old can try new veggies! Please keep us posted for the next month as well as about the Friday grocery pick up thing at the senior centre as well if it is happening at all!
